Hello Everyone:

As I write this newsletter for 2007-08, I was going to talk about the heat.  But looking back at the 2005 letter that is just what I did then.  I wrote that letter on July 18 and the temp was a 119 degrees.  Well guess what, it is only June 19 and the temp is 116!  Anyway we will get the miserable stuff out of the way so you can enjoy beautiful weather this fall and winter.

Changes and improvements that have been made:  A mural was painted on the north wall of the main hall.  It is just gorgeous.  The kitchen, hall, bathrooms and laundry have also been re-painted.  A new counter top was installed in the women’s bathroom.  Chairs in the library have been padded and covered.  Now it has the look and feel of a card room, very nice.  A new refrigerator has been purchased for the kitchen.  The 911 phone for the pool is being installed.  Water machine is being looked into .

Nondenominational church services will start on Sunday, October 14 from 8:30 - 9:30 am in the hall.  John & Dixie Autry will lead the worship service.  Dixie began as a lay speaker in the United Methodist church.  At age 45 Dixie went back to college and completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Church Ministries/General Ministries.  John began as Director of Music at South Miami Heights Baptist church in 1978 while serving in the USAF.  In 2005 John became a licensed minister and started Mobile Christian Ministries with Dixie.  Mobile Christian Ministries was formed for the purpose of conducting interdenominational church services in RV Parks.

October is the annual Halloween party with the Neighborhood Watch kickoff.  If you have any ideas for the party, let me know.  As you know quadrants don’t start until December so we will need volunteers and ideas for both October and November.

“Get Fit - Stay Fit” program begins in November.  Loren and Eleanore will be chairing this again.

Bingo will start the 6th of November.

Flu shots have been scheduled for Thursday, November 8 following coffee & donuts.

On Saturday, November 17 I have reserved tickets for a matinee performance of “Lucky Stiff”.  From the authors of My Favorite Year and Ragtime comes this zany, offbeat, and very funny murder mystery farce.  An unassuming English shoe salesman, Harry Witherspoon, set to inherit $6,000,000 is forced to take the corpse of his recently murdered Atlantic City croupier uncle on a weeklong vacation to Monte Carlo.  If he does not, the money will go to the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn.  The proceedings are sheer lunacy and hilarity!  Tickets are $20.00 and need to be paid for when reservations are made.

“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk will be Saturday, November 17.  This is a fund raiser that Shiprock has been involved in for a few years.  Walker’s and sponsors are needed for this worthwhile cause.

Thanksgiving dinner will be on Thursday, November 22.  Volunteer’s are needed.  OS Properties will provide $100.00 towards the meal.

December quadrant leaders are Pete and Annie Meyer.

Scott will provide $100.00 towards Christmas dinner.

We have some new ideas on the New Year’s Eve Party that are still in the works.  We do know that Pete Byam will be our entertainer for the dance.

Bob and Shelia Smith are the January quadrant leaders.

No Bingo on January 1.

Flu shots are scheduled for Thursday, January 10 after coffee/donuts.  It’s still not to late for shots.

Sizzling Strings are our first entertainers of the season.  This family is based out of Utah.  They have performed at the White House.  Performance will be held on Monday, January 28 at 7:00 pm.

February quadrant leaders are Bob and Jackie Iserman.

On Saturday, February 2 we have reserved seats at the Apache Junction Performing Arts Center to see the Dutton’s.  Group ticket prices are $20.00, same as last year.  They have a new show each season, so don’t miss this wonderful family of entertainers from Branson.

“Singin In the Rain” is the last play I have scheduled for the Hale Centre.  It will be on Saturday, February 16 at 3:00 pm.  Ticket prices are $20.00.  This musical is in a 1920 Hollywood setting.  A zany, light-hearted romantic comedy about the early days of sound film, considered the finest movie musical - starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.  Mixed with flashy tunes…Singin’ in the Rain, and Make ‘em Laugh… and a swooning story.

Johnny Counterfiet has recovered from his health problems and has promised to come and entertain for us on Monday, February 25 at 7:00 pm.

Ticket prices for each of our performances will be $7.00.  If you purchased reserved tickets last year you may have the same seats this year.

Dave and Pam Nelson are quadrant leaders for March.

Monday, March 10 is the “Going Home Party”.  Last year everyone had so much fun decorating their tables that I was asked if we could do it again.  The answer is yes.  The theme will be “African Safari”.  You are all so creative, I can’t wait to see the costumes and table decorations.  There will also be a costume contest this year.  Remember this is always volunteer.  You are still welcome to come even if you choose not to dress up or decorate your table.

This is a list of events that I have scheduled and your quadrants will be planning more fun things to keep everyone busy and happy.  Don’t forget all the card games, golf and exercise opportunities.  If anyone is interested in starting or teaching something new, let me know, so we can put you on the calendar.

Have a great summer.  See you in the fall.
